Winner QMBA 2002 Award for Health Facilities $1,000,000 to $5,000,000
The coordination and installation of building works, medical gases, air conditioning, electrical services, nurse call systems, security and alarm systems was fundamental to the success of the project. Medical gases incorporated pendant installation, oxygen and medical air, nitrous oxide, tool air, CO2 mix, vacuum suction plant, gas alarm systems and associated pipework. Independent air-conditioner to theatres unit, HEPA filters, positive and negative air to operating theatre's & dirt utilities respectively all adds to the need for careful communication and coordination of building and service trades.
Cost planning by John Foster Projects contributed to a 30% reduction in construction costs for the Mackay Day Surgery. This is in comparison to the state-wide benchmark construction costs per square metre on day laboratories / surgeries. John Foster Projects pre-construction approach provided cost-planning and budgetary advice to Architects and clients alike that led to both the financial and constructional success of this project. |

Large extension and refurbishment of the hospital with the addition of two new operating theatres was a difficult but very successful co-ordination feat, as the hospital still had to maintain theatre operation and all hospital functions. The co-ordination and installation of all building works, from state of the art chillers, theatre equipment and all the services required for a large hospital to function was a challenge to our team but we achieved all objectives, program, on schedule, on time and on budget. The project was completed to the total satisfaction of the architects, consultants and client.
