Demonstrated understanding of key construction interface affecting operations
Hillcrest Hospital Refurbishment
Large extension and refurbishment of the hospital with the addition of two new operating theatres was a difficult but very successful co-ordination feat, as the hospital still had to maintain theatre operation and all hospital functions. The co-ordination and installation of all building works, from state of the art chillers, theatre equipment and all the services required for a large hospital to function was a challenge to our team, but we achieved all program objectives on schedule, on time and on budget. The project was completed to the total satisfaction of the architects, consultants and client.
Mackay Day Surgery
Winner QMBA 2002 Award for Health Facilities $1,000,000 to $5,000,000
The coordination and installation of building works, medical gases, air conditioning, electrical services, nurse call systems, security and alarm systems was fundamental to the success of the project. Medical gases incorporated pendant installation, oxygen and medical air, nitrous oxide, tool air, CO2 mix, vacuum suction plant, gas alarm systems and associated pipework. Independent air-conditioner to theatres unit, HEPA filters, positive and negative air to operating theatres and dirt utilities respectively all adds to the need for careful communication and coordination of building and service trades.
Cost planning by John Foster Projects contributed to a 30% reduction in construction costs for the Mackay Day Surgery. This is in comparison to the state-wide benchmark construction costs per square metre on day laboratories / surgeries. John Foster Projects' pre-construction approach provided cost-planning and budgetary advice to architects and clients alike that led to both the financial and constructional success of this project.

Preparedness to meet or exceed program objectives
Refurbishment and renovation projects, especially those of a medical nature, are often more complex than building from the ground up. A successful outcome depends on the choice of builder. The builder must understand the client’s vision and objectives, and also the level of care and attention paid to the smaller details of the projects. The builder must fully understand the intent of the client and architect in order to translate that knowledge into high quality workmanship. John Foster Projects is that builder.
John Foster Projects recognizes that the key to a successful renovation project is to minimize disruption to the client’s on-going business. At John Foster Projects this is coordinated by having experienced professional on-site personnel who recognize and understand the difficulties of building in and around an existing operation.
By focusing on programming and pre-planning before work commences, we are able to advise our clients when the critical periods of construction will be, giving the client advance warning. By working and constantly communicating with our clients we are able to finish on time and on budget even in the most difficult of projects.
Our supervisory and administrative staff are available to meet the proposed commencement date.
